AI computers are here, and they're not as expensive as you might think. The Microsoft Surface Laptop starts at $1,000 and comes in two sizes: 13.8 inches and 15 inches. It's a thin, light, portable, and powerful device that shows off all the cool AI stuff in Windows 11, plus extra features from other AI programs.

Microsoft wrote a whole blog post introducing these new computers called "Copilot+ PCs." They're all about AI and have at least 40 TOPS (a measure of computing power) available. This lets them do a lot of AI tasks without needing to connect to the internet (which is good for speed and privacy). Companies like Samsung, Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo have all made their versions of these Copilot+ PCs, which are all laptops powered by a special Snapdragon X chip from Qualcomm.

The Surface Laptop uses either the Snapdragon X Elite or the Snapdragon X Plus chip. Both of these chips are really powerful for doing AI stuff, and they both come with 45 TOPS of AI power. The $1,000 model has the 13.8-inch screen and the X Plus chip. If you want to upgrade to the X Elite chip, it costs $400 more, but because of how the memory works, it's really $200 more.

The $1,000 laptop comes with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. If you want more storage, you can get a 16/512GB version for $1,200. The X Elite version starts with the same storage as the $1,200 model, so half of the $400 extra cost is for the chip, and the other half is for the storage.

Both the 13.8-inch and 15-inch versions have touchscreens with really clear displays and can refresh really fast. They're also tough, with Gorilla Glass 5 protecting them.

The 13.8-inch model weighs 1.34 kilograms and is 16.5 millimeters thick. It has a battery that can last up to 20 hours. The 15-inch model weighs a bit more at 1.66 kilograms and is a bit thicker at 18.3 millimeters, but it has a bigger battery that can last up to 22 hours. They charge at different speeds, with the smaller one charging at 39W and the bigger one at 65W.

The laptops are made from recycled materials, with the smaller one coming in four colors and the bigger one in two.

They both have USB-C ports, a USB-A port, a headphone jack, and a microSD card slot. They can connect to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, and they have speakers that support Dolby Atmos.

The Surface Laptop has a special button for using its AI features. You can use it to quickly find things you've used before, or to create cool images without needing to use the internet. Lots of other apps can also use the AI power of the laptop to work better.

You can pre-order the Microsoft Surface Laptops now, and they'll start shipping on June 18th. Prices vary depending on the size and specs you choose, so check Microsoft's website for details.
