Xiaomi's Redmi sub-brand unveiled two new flagship smartphones today, the Redmi K70 and Redmi K70 Pro. Both devices boast impressive features, including a new 50 MP main camera, fast charging, and powerful chipsets.
The Redmi K70 features a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 1440p resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. The display is capable of showing over 68 billion colors and reaching a peak brightness of 4,000 nits, making it one of the brightest displays on the market. Xiaomi has also developed an AI algorithm that can upscale select video games and apps to take advantage of the high-resolution display.
The Redmi K70 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, Qualcomm's top processor for 2022. The phone comes with either 12 GB or 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
The rear camera system consists of a new 50 MP main sensor with a 1/1.55-inch size, f/1.6 aperture, and optical image stabilization (OIS). There is also an 8 MP ultrawide-angle camera and a 2 MP depth sensor.
The front-facing camera has a 16 MP sensor, which is likely the same 1/3.06-inch sensor with an f/2.5 lens from the Redmi K60 series.
The Redmi K70 is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging. This means the phone can be fully charged in just 18 minutes. The phone also has a dedicated P2 charging chip and a G1 battery management chip to improve battery life and overall power management.
The device also comes with a 5,000 sq.mm cooling area, including a VC, which is 10% bigger than the one in the predecessors.
Running Android 14-based HyperOS, the Redmi K70 offers features like NFC, Bluetooth 5.3, and a dual nano-SIM slot. However, it lacks a microSD slot and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
The Redmi K70 will go on sale in China on December 1 at 10 AM. Color options include White, Black, Moonstone Blue, and Violet. Prices start from CNY2,499 ($350/€320) for the 12/256 GB variant and reach CNY3,399 ($480/€435) for the mightiest 16 GB/512 GB version.
One of the most significant upgrades is the use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, Qualcomm's latest and most powerful processor. This new chipset provides a significant boost in performance over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 found in the Redmi K70.
The Redmi K70 Pro also features an enhanced camera system. The main camera remains a 50 MP sensor with OIS, but the Pro model adds a 50 MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and a 12 MP ultrawide-angle camera. The selfie camera retains the same 16 MP sensor.
The Redmi K70 Pro also boasts a larger cooling system, which is 10% larger than the one in the Redmi K70. This should help to keep the phone cool even during demanding tasks.
The Redmi K70 Pro comes in three colors – Black, White, and Blue. Prices are CNY3,299 ($465/€420) for 12/256 GB, CNY3,599 ($505/€460) for 16/256 GB, CNY3,899 ($550/€500) for 16/512 GB and CNY4,399 ($620/€565) for 24 GB RAM and 1 TB storage.
Both the Redmi K70 and Redmi K70 Pro are impressive smartphones that offer a lot of value for the money. With their powerful chipsets, fast charging, and impressive camera systems, these phones are sure to appeal to a wide range of users.
