The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra was officially unveiled at Unpacked today, and the first impressions are highly positive, especially with the new software and design changes. While there aren’t many significant hardware upgrades, the most exciting updates come with the new One UI 7 software, which brings cutting-edge AI features.

One of the most obvious design changes is the rounded corners, replacing the pointy ones from previous models. This change allows Samsung to fit a larger screen into the device. However, some may feel that the rounded edges add comfort, but the overall grip isn’t as easy with the large size of the handset.

Despite the size, Samsung managed to make the S25 Ultra thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the S24 Ultra. The new model is 8.2mm thick and weighs 218g, compared to the 8.6mm and 233g of the S24 Ultra. The phone is also more durable, thanks to the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 and a titanium middle frame.

In terms of the display, the S25 Ultra now boasts a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen, slightly larger than the 6.8-inch display on the S24 Ultra. Samsung’s Anti-reflective technology has been improved as well, further strengthening its lead as a top display maker. The screen also features a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, HDR10+ Vision booster, and adaptive color tone. Additionally, the Ultrasonic Fingerprint scanner and a 12 MP selfie camera that records 4K 60FPS videos are housed within the display.

The rear camera setup is also a highlight. While the front-facing camera is unchanged, the S25 Ultra is the first Ultra phone to include a 50 MP Ultrawide lens (up from 12 MP in the previous model) with a 120-degree field of view and super-steady video recording. The primary 200 MP lens remains the same, while the periscope telephoto lens now features a 50 MP 3X zoom and is complemented by a new 10 MP 3X portrait telephoto. The camera system also includes the AI ProVisual engine for enhanced shots and editing capabilities.

For performance, the S25 Ultra is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite (For Galaxy) chip, which is faster than its predecessor, with a 4.47GHz clock speed (compared to 4.32GHz on the original). The NPU, which handles AI tasks, is 40% faster, enabling quicker responses from the Galaxy AI’s new features.

One UI 7 brings a host of AI innovations, including the "Now Brief" feature that provides a daily summary on the lock screen. It learns your routine and suggests events, weather updates, and travel insights based on your needs.

The S25 Ultra keeps the same 5000mAh battery as its predecessor, offering about 14 hours of active use. It also supports 45W charging. The device starts at $1,299 for the 12GB/256GB variant, and pre-orders have already begun in international markets.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra gets closer to launch in additional regions.
