Xiaomi unveiled the 14 and 14 Pro smartphones with triple 50 MP cameras, postponing the announcement of the Ultra model for a later date. A recent report indicates that the Ultra will sport four 50 MP cameras and a faster f/1.6-f/4.0 variable aperture on the primary sensor.
Variable aperture technology is not a novel concept for Xiaomi. The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro feature a two-step lens that can switch between f/1.4 and f/4.0 apertures.
While the f/1.6 aperture on the Ultra is slightly slower, it is likely compensated by a much larger sensor. It will also be an improvement over the f/1.9 aperture on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.
Earlier reports suggested the use of a Sony LYT-900 sensor for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra's primary camera. This rumor, coupled with a new Xiaomi feature that enables the lens to adjust during video recording based on the amount of light reaching the sensor, could significantly enhance the Ultra's camera capabilities.
